WELCOME TO THE WOA GUEST BOOK

Hi Dick,

I'm using your new e-mail address, so let me know if this goes thru, I can't tell you the memories I had just looking thru the e-mail address directory, so many really good friends that I had the good fortune to share my life with. I could tell stories for hours about so many and one story would be better then the last.

I tried to send Warren Vest an e-mail but it didn go thru, could you send me his latest one. I have a "key of Happiness" that was given to myself along with the rest of the crew when we flew the ROK headquarters group from Siagon to Suown, Korea, this doesn't sound like much but we did it non stop in a 727-100 some 4vhrs and 50 minutes, Warren was the Captain and we had to step climb three times and then re-file in the air to make the trip, it probably one of the longest 727 trips ever. Just another day at World, i had a plaque next to my chair in the den and every time I look at it I think of the days, this was the 14th of march 1973, the next day I flew the "paper route" from Yotoka to Korea and landed at Clark AFB in the Phillipines. When we landed they closed the field because the C-141 was coming in from Honai with all the POW"s and I got see John McCain among others get off the plane, probably the best day of my flying career.

I can go on and on, and I'm sure everyone else has their stories, anyway, stay safe and I am so glad I have had the chance to hook up with the people of World, I don't think the aviation industry knows the big part we played during Viet Nam,

All the best - Joe Ciavardone - jfcia@tampabay.rr.com

Received 10/30/2008 - Dear Dick,

Over the past few days, I have been reading the entries in the guest book. Before commenting on those entries, I would first of all like to let you know that I am impressed by the entire web site produced and managed by you !!Hats Off . Now a comment from someone who spent slightly more than 15 years in the employ of World Airways, in the sales section, as Regional VP for the Eastern part of the USA, stationed in New York City ! Most if not all of the entries in the guest book are from either crew members,or operational staff and pity-fully little seems to have been contributed by those in the sales section of the company. In this connection, I plan to shed light on some of the more interesting charter programs we managed to put to-gether in the Eastern Region and will send you that  which I think may interest both Cockpit and cabin crews, some of whom may have worked those flights----as well as other readers of the Guest Book. For now, Happy Halloween to both you and Branka !!

No free booze!

That settles it; you won't see me!Seriously Dick, I'd love to be there but 90% odds are that I won't make it this time.  Airfares from Hawaii are "through the roof" and I can't get a "saver" on my mileage plus.

I hope you have a grand time and thanks again for being the glue that holds all of this together.  If you run in to Sandy Cavallo, I'd much appreciate if you ask her to email me. (You could just hand her a copy of this email.) -Take care and thanks for all!

Hi Dick,  I'm so disappointed that I'm not in the west for this occasion.   I'm sure it will be wonderful for old friends to gather and I know the organizers put so much effort into the planning.

On the plus side of my being unable to come,   I'm involved as a volunteer coach at William and Mary for the graduate school of business...the students are marvelous, and this is a busy time for their program - the volunteers have a fairly structured role...hard to break away from in spite of a parking pass being the only tangible reward - the rest is pure joy and a sense of commitment to the students and their exciting futures.

Have a wonderful celebration! Sherry

Received October 5, 2008 - Bob Brann

Hi Richard, There are five or six ex WOA guys and gals in Europe that would like to get onto yr website. I didnt save it to my favourites so can you send me again so I can fwd ??

Gene Mashlan could have made the reunion as he is travelling to Florida at that time but too late to change his itinerary. His first stint with WOA was in London when Paul Maijer was Maintenance Manager LGW. Then subsequenty WOA brought him back from NZ when Paul went back to Oakland. Mention Mashlans name to Paul.

Best Regards - Bob Brann

10/4/2008- Received from Captain Neale Ensign -

I wish I could be there this year, but my Lufthanza flight brings me home on the 25th of Oct and the bastards would not let me change my flight even if I was willing to pay a stiff fee for the change.  I am sure you will have a wonderful time.  Will be thinking of you all at the reunion, give my regards to all my old friends.

Best regards, to you Dick,

Neale

Received 7/18/2008 - From Michael Carey

Michael Carey & Rob Kline

Dear Dick Kalman.

I have just found your World Airways web site and am stunned with sadness regarding colleagues I worked with in the 1970's who have flown to a more peaceful world.

I am Michael CAREY who joined World as a ground service manager at Gatwick in 1968 under Lyman Thornton.Prior to that I was a young agent working for WOA handler at Gatwick (BEA).After 2 days Lyman sent me on my first assignment to 'rep' a flight at Dublin Ireland.During my time with World and later with ONA I worked flights in Europe and the old Eastern block countries including MAC flights in Spain and Turkey. In the late sixties I was assigned to S.America for the 'Intrav' programme. My career with World ended under a bit of a cloud in 1974 whilst assigned to the AIir Mali lease in Bamako. As a travelling ground service rep I was often working at 5 or 6 different airports in Europe on the 7 days of a week !. I have to be grateful to World Airways and ONA for the historical memory of having visited most airports and cities of the World before 1976 when I left the airline business.

From 1976 to 1989 I entered the poultry industry as an export manager for a company that is now US owned (Aviagen Group).I ended up as International Sales Director for the Far East & French speaking Africa.I sold chicken breeding stock to the Chinese !! as well as many others.

I currently run my own Agricultural business group .We import free range meat poultry from France and I am quite big in the imports of Partridges and pheasant stock which are shot by the rich and not so famous in UK.I should be retired (65 yrs) but that would not do after such an active life in the airlines and retirement leads to thoughts of another place!.

For those who might remember the long haired English rep,I am still with Jacky after 42 years together and finally became legal in 2006.Her son Robert AUSTIN worked for World for a while. He is now in sales and marketing with Air France and based at their CDG head office. Some might remember his brother Thomas AUSTIN who worked flights in Algiers under Mike Deasy.Sadly Thomas died 18 years ago at the age of 34 from Leukaemia.

I would be pleased to exchange greetings with any one still around who remembers me.

Hello to Paul Maier and an even bigger Hello to Marjorie Sikes !!.

Capt Neale Ensign and Pussy Cat !!.

Sad to read about the passing of Capt Eddie Colon, and so many others whom I remember and was a pleasure to have known.

Best wishes to you Dick.

Sincerely Michael S CAREY

Received 7/10/2008 - Happy 60th reunion to all!  I wish I could be there to celebrate with everyone.  I realize it's been quite awhile since I left WOA, as one of our sons flew out of Kuwait on WOA in 2005, on his return from Fallujah, Iraq.  Wow, the time has literally "flown" by!!!  You can bet I'll be there for one of the future reunions, and with some of my flight attendant friends.  All my best to everyone, Judy Grabert King

Hi Dick,  I have just now getting around to working this monster again..Art Hendricks is now in Anchorage for the summer.  He is also in touch with Ed Swayer who is also up there.  And was the navigator who survived the 1960 crash on Guam. Maybe if you call him  he may come down. Both Art and Ed plus myself  are the only survivors of the original crew who took out the inaugural fly.  Hope to hear from you   Lin

Wow, Dick – what a great website.  Great fun to look through it and what a wonderful job you’ve done.  I was only with WORLD from ’79 to ’83 but am ever grateful for all that I learned there, and all the people that I met, places that I visited, the corner of the WORLD that I was introduced to.  And wonderful Erika Brunar (Hills) who introduced me to World in the beginning, saying “ah – you’ve been to Paris, and London – but you have not experienced the world at all.  I have an idea of how you can do that…” and off I went to lovely Wrightstown and McGuire Air Force base in the middle of February ’79 (very cheerful place in the winter).  I’d love to reconnect with some people that are not listed anywhere in the e-mail list, though.  Pam Witbro, Rene Harper, Lisa Brockman, Phili Elias-Baines – are you out there?  Ron Mangini?  Les Heinrich?  I still see Sherry Eager (Houghton) and Samantha Nealon (McCloskey) as we are in the same type of business and have stayed in touch, but would love to find some of my other old friends if anybody has any ideas.   Thanks, Dick for doing this, you are amazing.

All the best – Constance Chatfield-Taylor -  Washington, DC - constance@fc-tv.com

Received on 9/25/2006 - Sent 9/24/06

Hi again, Dick, (tried to do this directly through the site, but I don't have Outlook working properly).

Sherie Reineman here (F/A, 1979 - 1989, mostly Oakland).  Could you post this email, as well as my email address & contact info on the website?  Thanks-- and thank you for your good efforts in keeping this thing together!  I will try to think & post some stories later on....i'm sure I can even come up with a few that will be dignified and web-appropriate! Missed the 2006 reunion because I was vacationing in Italy (Venice, Cortina d'Ampezzo, Bolzano, Verona, and back to Venice), a glorious mix of city touring and hiking/biking in the Dolomites.  Literally did not get in a car the whole time! Anyway, just wanted to say "hi" to all my old WOA buddies with whom I haven't been able to connect.... we have all gotten busy and distracted over the years, especially losing touch since heading down other paths after the big, traumatic layoff of 1986.

These days I'm working at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in the Patent Dept (in the hills just above the UC Berkeley campus), where the minds are bright and the views spectacular.  I live in Albany, CA with my husband of two years, Ben Lukas.  Life has finally graced me with some good luck (and good judgement), after all! WOA was truly a special period in my life, and I still count my closest friends among those I met while flying.  While moving in new directions, we share many memories and chuckles over our many zany adventures at World.  For those of you who remember me as a curious, slightly oddball, combination of intellectual seeker, frustrated aspiring writer, and wild party gal, you'll be interested to note I've settled down some, and I've become another slightly plump and contented middle-aged ex-FA, but i'm still primally catlike (appearing to be somewhat aloof and devil-may-care, but nothing much gets past my field of vision, I play with my food, love a short nap while reading in a sunny spot in the garden, and most of all, always appreciate a good scratch on the head!!  Plus, although I may have wandered off for a bit and gotten lost, it turns out I care more than most about getting home.  So any of you out there, feel free to write!
Cheers & Take Care,
Sherie Reineman (sharon.reineman@sbcglobal.net or bikedive@mac.com)
p.s. - Joy Brown, your email account is full!

Received on 8/12/2006 - Dick - So happy that there is a way to stay in touch with such long time friends.I received this website information from Margie Sykes while attending a birthday party for Dori Bonn at Helga’s home in Marin County. I have stayed in touch with Carol Papetti and have vowed to visit the bay area annually since attending the memorial service for Erica Hills. Erica, Dori, Carol and I were roommates in Mill Valley for several years.  I am Pattie Gaines Kriebel and flew for WOA from 1970-79 with fabulous memories. What a special opportunity during those years. I would like to be included in any events that are happening with WOA personnel. I was part of the Baby Lift and disappointed that I did not know of the reunion. I would have been there. I just returned from CA so will not attend the ’06 reunion but would love to be on the e mail list for future events. I am back in TN, happily married for 23 yrs and have one son who turns 21 in DEC. I live in Franklin, TN (just south of Nashville) and continue to travel extensively. That’s quite a statement from a former WOA flight attendant.

Thank you for the web site and adding me to the alumnus list.

HI Bill, Helen & Dick.

I worked for WOA as a Flight Attendant from Feb, 67 to Feb.' 73. Left to go to Grad School at Univ of Grenoble, France and married a Frenchman. Eventually moved back to Calif then to Annapolis, MD. Am married to a retired Army officer and read the Babylift article in Military Officer magazine. Called WOA in Georgia and got your email addresses.

Is there an alumni webite? How many people from the 67-73 era are still working for the company? Is flying to Kuwait about the same as flying to Vietnam?

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello Dick -

Most recently I have been referred by Liz Ayala to the  World Airway Alumnus Site and was truely thrilled.  It has been a few years since speaking and/or seeing any of my old flying partners whom I dearly miss.  Only two years ago, when moving to a wonderful Senior Community, did a framed "Perfection Not Correction" award with both you, myself and Larry Solletti appear, and of course, brought back many memories.  I flew with World from 1968 - 1978 and of course had the silly name of "Mach 1".  World for me was the most wonderful experience of a lifetime, to include all the wonderful folks that worked diligently and loyally to keep the team together....lots of  coffee and many laughs over those very long hours of being together.  I look forward to keeping in touch now that I have found your site and news from those vintage years and Vietnam Era  participants.  Hello to those that keep in touch and know that I think of all of you often along with all the wonderful memories World Airways afforded all of us in those days.  Continued success with this Site and my very best wishes to you and yours.  Keep in touch.

Hello all -- I finally got to the website courtesy Lau Pielaat (my favorite partner!) I am glad to see so many are participating.  When I see Dick Kalman's name I always remember the "TA" classes. Anyone else remember that?

I am now retired from the feds and living in rural Browns Valley CA on 9 acres of beauty (no we are not farmers or ranchers, just got out of the big city!) .

I will continue to look at the website and even submit pictures if possible!

Welcome aboard Manny: MANNIE MELLO MAINTENANCE  DEPT,

Hello - I'm Penelope Scantlin (WOA knew me as Penny Scantlin) and I flew from 1971-1976. After leaving WOA, I got married, moved to Indiana, had four (yes,
4) kids, then returned to the Bay Area with my husband and kids in 1985.  We lived in Marin County, I was an at-home Mom, while husband Larry worked in the

City. Fifteen years later, we divorced, the kids went on to college and I returned to the airline industry as a Flight Attendant for American Airlines.  I am still actively employed, based at LAX, but dreaming of returning to SFO someday.  I had all four kids in college last winter but one has, mercifully, graduated and works for FOX Sports.  The other kids go to the University of San Francisco, the University of San Diego, and UCSanta Barbara. I have been to several WOA reunions and I am looking forward to the net one in October of 2004 in Alameda. Thank you so much for the opportunity to get together with old friends from a wonderful time in my life.  Fondly, Penny Scantlin Heckaman - Pennyheckaman@aol.com

I was a Commissary Agent from approximately June 1967 to sometime in 1973 or 1974, about six years. The commissary at that time was in the

rear half of a quonset hut behind Hangar 6. In the front of the building was I think the purchasing department, run by Don Fry and Al Bishop.

I don't remember the name of the person who hired me, because he left shortly thereafter and was replaced temporarily by Harvey Davies and

then permanently by Libert (Charlie) Chan. I saw Charlie's picture at one of the luncheons.Joe Boyle, Tallahassee, FL 32317, pls4475@nettally.com

J.W."Brick" Bradford,

Just checking your website for Oakland Flyers reunions. I was with ONA and lived in The Bay Area for 10 years.mail Address = brick@intergate.ca

My name is Ron Davidian and I was a F/O with world from 3/71 to 4/72 in the

same class as Dudley Thornton et al. My email is "rondavidian@yahoo.com" as a primary and this one "rondavidian@comcast.net" is the secondary.

I'd be interested in attending some of the reunion functions.

Comments = I flew as a flight attendant from 1960 to 1965. Hi to those who remember me.

Glorianjg@jgcrosslin.com

8/26/2003 - Hi, I flew with world in 1962-3. Flew with Johhny Wiseman, and old Dick Manetti. Left World and went with Trans-Texas Airways which became Texas International and then we bought Continetal. Retired from the left seat in 1991 and then flew the panel until 2001. Retired off the DC-10. Had a ball flying for world. Rick Hundley - txrick@ix.netcom.com

(5/20/2003) Dear Sir: Your site is "wundebar"...the way it used to say over the hangar" "PERFECTION NOT CORRECTION".

Hi Dick...I will not let you to "sweat" waiting to find out who is the mystery writer.  John Genna

Months ago Mal Hollombe gave me you Email address and I sent you a long message but I never received a repy. Mal told me that you had virus problems. Anyway it was exciting hearing about you...I always remember the ride you gave me back to the Hotel after our seminar..."I am Ok, you are Ok".The words spoken by you changed my life in relation to World. Before...my priorities were: World, Ed Daly, God and if I had time left, my family. That night after you spoke to me and you placed those priorities in the "RIGHT ORDER" (GOD, MY FAMILY, World and Ed Daly), things started to make more sense. I wish you had given me the ride many, many years ago....but as they say it was water under the bridge. I must admit, notwithstanding it was a chaotic, demanding, crazy, never ending job, I did enjoy what I was doing, the sad part is that after working for World for approx 17 years I do not have the right to collect "1 penny" of pension. It is sad but...
C'est la vie!

How are you doing? How do you invest your time? Personally I am busy with the Homeowners Association...but the family (my 5 grandchildren) keep me very, very busy, actually too busy. In November 2001, after Thanksgiving, I almost went to ..."visit Bailey Ranes  & CO.".
I went to coach and referee soccer and the day after Thanksgiving. While I was refereeing I felt some pains on my chest. I did not pay any attention because I was told since I was kid that I had a heart of a "mule". Sunday I felt terrible and after some screaming from my wife and the Doctor I went to the hospital for a check up. They did everything that you can think to test if I had any heart problems. They said go home....Strangely, I told the cardiologist...hey Doc since I am in the Treadmill please increase the speed to grade 4. Well, it was the end of the world ...he wanted to rush me for an operation...we had a big confrontation...I requested a second opinion which confirmed I had all 3 major arteries blocked. They operated on me (angioplastic) and after I woke up the Doctor told me...Mr. G, you are a very lucky men. 1 artery was 98% clogged, the 2nd 55% and the 3rd 35%.
I was totally shocked because my diet is perfect, I exercise daily, no smoke or drink. I feel OK now...but I am still in an incredible denial.

As Soletti used to say, please, do not ask John the time otherwise he will build you a grandfather clock. After I close this message I am going to send a message to Ford. It has been a long time since I do not talk to him.
Please accept my best regards, John

From the webmaster- it is email contacts from my WOA friends like John that make all my time spent developing the WOA Alumnus web site worthwhile.  Keep those emails coming. Dick Kalman

(5/16/2003) Hi Dick,
My name is Susan Nagid (formerly Niznik, when I was at WOA). I was employed from 5-73 to 9-86 as a FA, most noted for my escapades as a Malaga 6 participant. At any rate, Erin Daly told me about your website and it is terrific!!!!! I miss all our WOA family members and were thrilled to know such a website existed.  It is fun to read all about the old times and to see how well WOA is doing now. (I wish I would have stayed with them)  Being in the travel field many will tell you it will always be in their blood and so it was with me as I worked for Reno Air and now at American.

I would like to have a password to go on your website and write a feww lines of my own and thought I had applied for a password through you.  I haven't heard anything from you and perhaps I am doing something wrong.  Let me know what I have to do to get one......my E-Mail is : snagid @aol.com   Thank you so much and thanks for taking all the time to get this all together.

My name is Elizabeth Smith-Mentzoni (1/9/2003)

I am so impressed over Dick's hard work to keep this website going. It really must be a full time job!

After reading through all the emails posted below, I noticed that there was a noticable LACK ( none!) of imput from the old Wrightstown/Baltimore gang. Now WE have some stories to tell!

I was hired by WOA for training approx 1979, after 3 years of trying to claw my way in to the airline business. ( Not easy in those days) I was so excited and happy, only to have my dreams dashed with the tragic crash of the American Airlines DC10 in Chicago, which resulted in all DC10's being grounded and training for new F/As postponed indefinately. Anyway finally in April 1981, I finally began training in Oakland. I dont remember exact numbers but there were many classes and we had all been hired for either the Wrightstown base, or Baltimore, as WOA was starting scheduled service to London and Frankfurt.

The Baltimore group were in for more of a "normal" flying life, while those of us in Wrightstown had anything but a normal flying life! We all began as nervous new F/A's, many of sharing rooms at the McQuire Motel, I believe it was called...several of us to a room! We were basically broke, all away from home, and NOT IMPRESSED with Wrightstown! However all we wanted to do was fly for WOA, so we stuck it out, and eventually most of us settled down, found apts and lifelong friends and the best part of all, seeing the world!

Wrightstown scheduling was very unpredicable.WE primarily flew charters and MAC flights. I remember often being on reserve and being called for a 3 day trip, and end up coming home 3 weeks later, having been extended and extended. We never knew where we might end up! That was the excitement and fun of World Airways. It was no hum-drum airline! At that time we positioned a lot and ferried planes around constantly..also great fun. I rememer one ferry from LAX to Taipei ( 13 hrs) in which we all had our PJ's on during flight!

I was lucky enough to have seen MOST of Europe ( and a rather unusual 10 day lay over in Stockholm) and many many other places around the world. I was lucky enough to be called for THE HAJ while on reserve, and what an experience that was. I have been to Diego Garcia, and all kinds of remote out of the way places. We had a memorable lay over in Jedda...that would take a whole new email to go in to that story. Suffice it to say that it was dramatic!

I could go on and on about our trips back in those days and what fun we had on the DC10's and those rickety DC stretch 8's!! ( My experiences on those are also for another day!) However in addition to seeing the world, we made such great friends. I am still in contact with many of them today. I:E Sheri Pascua-Bennet,Denise Fronko, James Bice and Don Barnes. Up till recently I was in touch with Trace miller.

So back to my original comment..where are you Wrightstown/BWI alumnus of the early 1980's?? I remember everyone in my class and other classes, and would love to hear what they are all up to these days. There are too many names to mention here, but you know who you are!

As for me, in a nutshell, since leaving World to have my children (It was a sad day to leave World) I have had many jobs including selling real estate, working in hotels, and for the last 10 years I have been a cardiac nurse, and am currently an ER/TRAUMA nurse. I am living in Norway with my Norwegian husband and 2 daughters.

I REALLY miss flying and often crave to go back to it..but I suppose its too late now. I am just so happy to have been a part of World Airways at that time, and consider it to have been my best job of all time.

Anyway, would love to hear from any of the East Coast F/A's who are still out there!

All the Best for 2003

Hi Dick and Branka, (12/30/2002)

Eric Stell here. I have enjoyed your website and being able to see again all the people I used to work with while at WOA. After
leaving woa (having enjoyed the fun for 8 years) I went on to Piedmont Airlines who then became US Airways. After all the Boeings and Douglas airplanes I have gone on to driving a bus (Airbus 320s). I still enjoy flying and meeting people who have worked for World. I will work on getting to the next reunion to see some of those people I recognize but can't recall the name. My wife (Nancy) and I live in Phoenix, AZ. and still enjoy snow skiing, scuba diving, and I like building experimental airplanes (RV 7 this time). Would love to hear from others and there is always room for guests (both our son and daughter are grown and gone). Have a great new year. Eric Stell -
EricJpilot@aol.com

12/12/2002 - Dear Dick---
I ran into Capt Warren Cook recently and he told me about your website and that World had periodic reuntions.

I flew as flight navigator at World Airways from 1967 to 1970. I then flew with The Flying Tiger Line and then Braniff International until Braniff's bankruptcy.

After Braniff I got involved in flight operations and only flew with the Air Force Reserve C-5's. I set up the QANTAS flight operations office at LAX. After QANTAS I became the Director of Safety at a charter airline, Renown Aviation in Santa Maria, Ca. Renown flew Lockheed Electras in freight and passenger operations, mostly in Europe for Channel Express. When Renown went bankrupt, I helped form the first System Operations Control at Polar Air Cargo in Long Beach. When Atlas Air Cargo bought out Polar, I was "downsized" to the street.

I look forward to meeting again with the best of the World. I planned to attend the Dec 14 luncheon until I heard the dire weather forcast for OAK. I will, however, tell Navigator Larry Marks about the luncheon since he still lives in Novato. I live on the Central Coast south of San Luis Obispo on a hilltop overlooking the ocean in Arroyo Grande. We don't worry about flooding on this rock hill unless it rains for 40 days. I will try to make the next WOA luncheon.

Regards---Bob Smullen

11/25/2002 - Dick, I spoke to Kelly Lavik last night and she made me aware of your web-site. I think it is a wonderful project you've taken on to keep all the employees in touch with World. We were such a small airline, it was like an extended family. My best to you and your family during the holiday season.
Sincerely, Lorna McLearie -

11/21/2002 - Hi Dick! I have a new email address. I missed the reunion this year. I was flying, not with WOA, unfortunately. I still fly with a charter. I am working for Ryan Intern'l out of Wichita KS. Thanks for keeping us all incontact!

10/21/2002 - Hi Dick. 73's. Finally got a chance to look at the renunion pictures. What a great treat. Wow... how we change over the years, uh? You look great. Everyone does, with a few "Silvers". It was nice to see pictures of Ken H. and Bill K. If you happen to talk to them, tell them I say Hello. This pictorial made me decide to do whatever it takes to attend next year's. Come hell or high water. I am still doing the same thing: Flying the MD-11, and running my little airplane parts company. Seniority is nice. I get my first choice every month, and all I do is fly on the MD-11 contract that does Houston to Luanda, Angola. In case you don't know about it, it's a contract to fly the Oil Company people on their work rotation to Angola. The airplane is basically configured ALL FIRST CLASS, and our average load (on an airplane that can carry 419 pax) is 60. They pay a big price to go one way, non-stop. The average flight time is 15 hours, but Westbound, in the winter, can approach 16. We carry a heavy crew (2 capts. 2 IRO's). So, 32 hour round trip (block) times 2 equals 64. So, with a 65 hr. guarantee (same old contract), we're done after only 2 round trips. That means we are gone 8 days total. Easy? Yes. Boring? Yes.

Take care, Louie Salazar

10/02/02- Hello Dick,

8/26/02 - Dick,
I don't know if you remeber me but I was in your B-707 ground school class early in 1967. I was a Flight Engineer for WOA from 1966 to 1970 and thereafter flew for various other companies throughout the world. At World, I was on the DC-6s (Logair) and B-707's. Thanks for setting up the internet site.

Dick, I was recently in contact with Henry Auna who gave me this Web site.
What a great job you've done with this Web site! I can't wait to go to the
October reunion.

I was with World 1974-1985. I spent one year in the Chicago Sales Office,
five years as a Traffic Rep/Ground Rep (they kept changing the title of the
job) based in Chicago, then five years in Customer Service at BWI.

Reading the guest book entries brought back a lot of warm memories. I
recognized so many of the faces (and even remembered most of the names) in
the pictures! Dick, you were in the training department, right?

I've been with United in Chicago since leaving World, presently a customer
service agent at ORD. If any of the World alumni are ever at ORD, please
stop by to visit. I'm almost always working the gates on the B concourse.

Hi Dick:

Thanks for including me on the web site. After I spoke to Ford yesterday, I went on the site and browsed. What a wonderful memory lane trip! I still stay in touch with several WOA friends. Sherry Eager, Sam Nealon, Carol Papetti and I am always in touch with Kathy Doyle. Being a WOA alumnus has served me well at the Board. I am always amazed at how little information a lot of flight attendants are given about how things operate on an airplane. Our training always taught us how things operated, not just what buttons to push to make things work. I still use my WOA F/A manual as a reference. My life is hectic and I have a hard time keeping up with old friends, but the web site will help. Thanks for making it possible.

Best regards, Nora Marshal (4/23/02)

Hi Dick!
I am a former employee of World! I would love to catch up with some of my old friends! I worked at Office Manager at the PHL F/A Office in the early nineties!

I keep in touch with Ursula and she gave me your web site! Is it possible to get access to the alumni area? I guess I would need an access code and a password??

My home email is crossword@erols.com and I would love to hear from my friends! I'll wait to hear from you!

Regards, Debbie Engel

Great site - I got to this site via Margie Sikes. I enjoyed seeing the
farewell party of Pam Kung. I wish her the very best in her retirement! I
used to fly with World and with Pam in the 60's. I have stopped in on a few
flights that you had coming through Washington, DC where I now live. If you
are having any reunions in the DC area please let me know OR if you need any
help in this area I would be happy to assist.
Best to ALL

Dick - I don't know if you will remember me, but I was on the Forward Look Committee around 1984 and traveled to all the out stations. My name was Jennifer Biller at the time and I was a financial analyst on the 3rd floor. I have missed WOA over the years. I moved to Idaho and was the Budget Analyst for Empire Airlines in the early 1990's. If I ring any bells, - write me back at Jensmith@zerod.com, Controller.

Hi Dick,

I flew with World on the DC-6 and 707 between 1966 and 1970. You may or may not remember me. I am still
in touch with some of the older crewmember, Ed Heering, Erik Moberg, Gene Reed and have run into Warren
Vest at various places around the country.

At the present time I am with the FAA out of the DFW office. Gene Reed gave me your site address. I was
conducting an enroute inspection on an AA B-767 between MIA and DFW and the Capt. was Gene. Many years
have past since we were with WOA. I retired from American in 1990 but our paths never crossed.

After leaving WOA spent some time in the non-sked and corporate circuit and finally retired from
AA.

Was not ready to give it up in 1990 and after a very short retirement went back to aviation. Flew for the
Sharks Hockey Team, was MD-11 Instructor for MD, 737 & MD 80 Instructor for Flight Safety and then off
to Singapore for 6 months on a 737. Joined the FAA 5 years ago. Think I am about ready to hang it up. It has
been fun and I have very fond memories of the DC-6 and Logair.

I have enjoyed browsing your site. You have done a great job.

First let me say what a great job you have done with this website! I am amazed at the sense of family ones gets browsing through these pages. I hope that I may be able to one day be a part of something that is so obviously wonderful! World carried me to my first assignment in 1980, and has had special place in my heart ever since.

Well Done! - John W. Armbrust

Dear Dick,

You have done an excellent job with this website, and also with all of
your efforts to keep the WOA family together through the various luncheons
and reunions. Since leaving the Bay Area shortly before World moved to
Virginia, we have lived in New York, Florida (Miami), Connecticut and now,
for the past six years, Florida again (this time in Weston, outside of Ft.
Lauderdale). We have both held a variety of positions with different
companies. Asher was most recently President of an MRO in Florida, and is
now an independent aviation consultant. In Connecticut, he was Vice
President of Technical Services for an aircraft leasing company. I took the
opportunity to go to law school when we lived in Connecticut. I will be
joining the aviation practice group of Greenberg, Traurig, a national law
firm based in Miami, in a few days. I spent the last 3 1/2 years as Vice
President & Corporate Counsel of Indigo Airlease in Ft. Lauderdale, which was
purchased by debis AirFinance. Barr McKenna worked as a technical consultant
to Indigo, and it was Barr who told me about this website. Before
debis/Indigo I was Assistant General Counsel of The AGES Group in Boca Raton,
where I happened to meet Cliff Hansen who was working on a project for GECAS.
Ex-WOA people are everywhere!!!
We had hoped to be able to attend the reunion in Las Vegas but we
cannot because our son Avi (who is now almost 16 and several inches taller
than his father) is starting a new school tomorrow. We would love to hear
from old WOA friends, either by email or otherwise, especially if they are in
or passing through South Florida.

Regards, Caryl and Asher Ben Basat - CBBLaw01@aol.com

I just talked to Mike Chaika yesterday, and he gave me the WOA address. I
perused all of the photos and I must say you are doing your usual superb job.
Congratulations Dick.
I live in Oakland still and my e-mail address is
Pendydad@aol.com. Please
include me in your next update. and all other information you have to pass
along.

I was in Osan a year ago and saw a WOA MD11 come and go but the military
would not let me get near it.

Again good work Dick

Hi Dick,
Just a note of thanks for all the work you do to keep our "World" Family together. I have contacted and been contacted from a few of my past World friends and am delighted to here the changes we have all made in the 15 years, when I left World kicking and screaming! Again, many thanks.

Well, nice site. I do feel a bit out of place, in that I am only a recent employee/alumnus. Mx Rep '96-'99. LAX and MIA. I do keep in touch with some of my ex-World coworkers, but as the time goes by, I seem to lose touch with most of them. Hopefully this site will help in that regard. I miss the people, but not the work so much. After many "scheduled" 36 hour days, enough was enough. I am now working for FedEx as the Aircraft Maintenance Manager of the Phillipines stationed in Subic (I also cover Manila and Cebu). I would love to hear from (or about) any Mx people. Regards,

Hi, Dick and all other alumnae -
Kenn Barton-Jones alerted me to this site. I do miss my friends from WOA and would welcome hearing from you all. I'm living in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I met my husband while in Frankfurt with WOA. He's Canadian. When world mved it's FA operation to Charleston, I moved to Calgary. I worked for Canadian Airlines for awhile in their scheduling department after moving up here in 1987. I actually met Kenn again while we were both at Canadian. I'm now self-employed in the fashion industry. Calgary is lovely and anyone heading up to "the great white north" for the Calgary Stampede or to see Banff should give me a ring! What are you up to, Dick?

Thank you Dick,

You have done a great job with the web site, it is super. Thank you for putting in all the effort, I know it is very time consuming. I just found out about the web site and will use it to keep in touch with the alumni.

I am currently living on my 53' sailboat, "Cheers", in Oyster Cove. Been doing some coastal cruising to the Santa Barbara Channel Islands as well as local SF Bay sailing and overnights. Pilots and sailboats just seem to go together. Thanks for all those years as Director of Training, you did a great job. Dick, those were good years. Lots of hard work, lots of global travel and a new adventure every month. The people were great and the crew comradery sustained us all during those long trips. I heard that you are in charge of training at BART. I hope they are treating you well and all is going well for you. I just recently heard about the web site and am looking forward to checking it out more. Thanks for doing it for us,
Kim

Dear Dick,

I have meant to write to you since you first wrote way back in August when you replied to me putting my address in the World email addresses. Sorry for the delay but things have been a bit hectic in my life.

I do appreciate all the updates on people and events you have kept me informed about. I was really planning on getting to the reunion, but my plans for making my airline reservations didn't work out, and then something else came up that week-end so I wasn't able to attend. I was there five years prior though and really enjoyed the reunion. It was great as it had been 25yrs. since I had flown and a lot of the gals I was friends with at that time also were in attendance for the first time. The problem being the week-end went to fast.

I haven't even had a chance to check your website to see if there are new pictures, hopefully this evening I can do that. I work on a computer all day at work and by evening I don't want to deal with it again. I am currently working as a travel agent, so I am still in the travel end of the work force.

After I quit World Airways I married a man I had been dating for five years, we are going on our 32 anniv. this year. We have two children and three grandchildren (which are a real joy) We moved thirteen times our first eight years of marriage (major moves across the states and Puerto Rico) then we came back to Idaho Falls in 1977 and have been here every since. We owned our own business for twenty years, doing industrial testing, the local area slowed down in 1998, and we quit the business and went to work for others. Bill (my husband) went to work at
Yucca Mt. in the Las Vegas area and was there two years, I commuted between here and there staying several months in each place. We came back here a year ago and will hopefully stay put. I doubt if we will retire, we both enjoy working to much.

Because of my experiences with World Airways flying in and out of Vietnam I have been very active in a local Vietnam Veterans group here in I.F. for the past 13 to 15 years. We built the Idaho State Vietnam Veterans Memorial here, which kept us very busy for about 5yrs. currently I have been assisting a local author we hired to write a book about histrory of Idaho's involvement in the war. It has taken us about eight years of research and collecting data from the Idaho casualities and lots of interviews with those that came home, hopefully we will get it to a publisher this year.

I also meant to write and let you know that I remembered you very well, you taught our class emergency training, I was in class in May 1967. I even have a picture of you out on the tarmac near that old plane you used for fire lessons. You were tall dark and handsome in the picture, from what I have seen on your website you are still tall, handsome and grey. Boy have we all aged (ha)

You will appreciate this - I was looking at the pictures on the website back in Aug. trying to figure out who the guys were I just couldn't recognize any of them, and I am really bad with names, finally it clicked that these people were all thirty years older also and that is why I didn't recognize them. I guess I just see myself aging and the changes are gradual to me, but when you don't see someone for thirty years you realize we change alot.

There are a couple of captains that I remember and would like to know if they are still living if you know. One was Jack Nelson, the other one I think was a copilot and I think his last name was Webb. I lost all my flight records during our move to Puerto Rico I had all the names of the crews I flew with on them, and as I stated above I am not
good with names.

I think I have bent your ear long enough with this lengthly letter. Do keep me informed of the happenings of World Alumni, hopefully next year I can come to the reunion.

Hi Dick: It's been years since having seen you. I hope all is well for you. I bumped into Ted Unruh on a Layover in Ft. Lauderdale last month. He mentioned that you maintain a database of exworld employees. I would really like to have my name added. Thanks Dick and I hope to hear from you.

Having looked at many airline web sites today, I must tell you how impressed I was with the caring attitude towards your employees, especially those who no longer work for the company. Its great that World Airways keeps its family together.

Hi, I need help. I am a professor at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. I am working on a project about airlines and their executives. I want to include World but I am having some difficulty finding the information I need. Perhaps you could help. I am looking at the years 1982 - 2000. I need the CEOs and Presidents (COOs would be a bonus) for these years. I have conflicting information about who was actually CEO and President for
all of this time period, with the exception of April 1997 - 2000. I would really appreciate your help. Thank you. Pam Marett

Hi there! Guess I will sign on in case I don't see everyone I would like to at the reunion on Saturday, some of my old pals can find me. Karen Dean Bandov for one, please e mail me!! I work for Nordstrom and cover all the N Cal stores I see many of my former flight attendant co-workers in the stores (some things never change!)some are still my co-workers at Nordstrom! I am not so computer savvy that I can get away from carrying lots of paperwork and I have taken to pulling a briefcase on wheels to save my back, not a day goes by without someone laughingly suggesting I look like a flight attendant. Maybe that's why I carry so much along in case I get extended!!
Thanks for your help in keeping us and bringing us all together Dick.
